2020

Glissan-Do

WOU Auditorium, Penang; 7 March 2020

This smashing concert with slide guitar virtuoso Manish Pingle was the last concert I played before the Covid pandemic closed off everything in 2020.

I have many fond memories of this totally spontaneous concert, where we played the Rag Bihag as the main piece. Manish is such a joy to perform with. Accompanied on tabla by Vick Ramakrishnan

Prerna - The inspiration

Shantanand Auditorium, 14 Feb 2020

I loved the theme of this show - the struggles and joys of a mother with an autistic child. The music, composed by my dear friend Sashi, was poignant and reflective of the deeply impactful moments in the story. I felt privileged to perform at this show, which taught me so much about living with autism.

AkashA's star performance at the Dewan Filharmonic Petronas - 2010

Dewan Filharmonic Petronas, KL - 22 Nov 2010

One of the best venues I have played in. The 1200 seater hall was packed to the brim - no standing room even. What an electrifying concert!

Featuring guest artist Sonia Croucher on the flute, and Kumuda Suppayah, my dear student, who played tanpura for a few songs.

I love this poster as the entire band autographed it right after the show...

Hero; 2008

The Actor's Studio, Bangsar, KL; 27-21 Aug 2008

Playing live, improvised music for a serious play was a first for me. The actors were extremely professional, and the plot had elements of comedy, tragedy and intrigue. To create the right mood for the moment was a challenge, but it worked out so well. Music performance involved Prakash Kandasamy, Jotsna Prakash and myself.

2007

10: Entwined Calling; 2007

KLPAC, KL; 4 - 7 Oct 2007

This 10th year anniversary production by Hands Percussion was special. My composition for this was called 'Water - engulf me' and involved my senior sitar students. My special thanks to Artistic Director Bernard Goh for always keeping us in his heart.

Within Malaysia, all the major sitar players and Hindustani musicians participated and performed, including maestro Samuel J Dass. Overall, over 400 students enrolled, and the concerts reached out to over 3000 people.

Taal Express, JB; 2004

JOTIC Auditorium, JB; 8 Oct 2004

Taal Express was a beautifully conceived musical presentation by fellow musicians Nawaz Mirajkar and Renu Suresh of TFA Singapore. Folk tunes from different regions of India were crafted into a musical journey, woven together with the theme of a musical 'train' which connects all the regions. I enjoyed performing sitar in this production very much.

Dialogue in Skin; 2003

MATIC, KL; 2003

My first collaborative work with the marvellous artists of Hands Percussion, under the direction of Bernard Goh. It was interesting to juxtapose the sounds of the sitar with the strong drumbeats of the Paigu and other Chinese drums. This led to many other collaborations with Bernard and the Hands team.

Mahsuri - The Legend of Langkawi; 2003

Istana Budaya, KL - 2003

Another production where Jotsna Prakash and myself composed the entire music score.

2002

Kallang Theatre, Singapore; 13 & 14th August 2002

It was most exciting to be a composer, along with childhood friend Jotsna Prakash for this mega dance drama production. The challenge of using my Indian music background to create music for a contemporary production with a distinct Chinese theme was deeply satisfying.
